Standards for Excellence

In January 2008, the Foundation partnered with the Community Development Partnership to offer the “Standards for Excellence” training program for select nonprofit organizations in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.  Nonprofit groups providing services in these counties were chosen to receive coaching from peers and expert facilitators on topics including Advocacy, Fundraising, Legal Compliance, Board Development, and other challenging areas facing nonprofit organizations.

In previous years, the Foundation partnered with the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations to underwrite the training program for organizations in Montgomery, Anne Arundel, Talbot and Worcester Counties in Maryland as well as Sussex County, Delaware.

Nonprofit Leadership Training Institute

The Carl M. Freeman Foundation partners with Montgomery College to present the Nonprofit Leadership Training Institute (NPLTI) for emerging nonprofit leaders in Montgomery County, Maryland. This intensive, interactive training applies the best research and resources for the next generation of nonprofit managers and directors.

Technology Training

The Foundation is pleased to have worked with NPower Greater DC Region, a nonprofit organization that provides technology support and services to nonprofits in the area, to offer free trainings to nonprofits in Montgomery County, Maryland. Trainings focus on designing effective websites and building useful and easy to use databases.

Lunch and Learn Sessions

The Foundation offers opportunities for nonprofit leaders to gather with one another to network and learn from other professionals. Nonprofit leaders wear so many hats, they often do not make the time to participate in occasions where they can network with other leaders. We offer the chance for leaders to talk, collaborate and support one another. Invaluable partnerships have resulted from these sessions.  Nonprofit leaders from both Maryland and Delaware have been included in this opportunity

Standards for Excellence

“As a small nonprofit with limited staff I appreciated the clear concise presentation of topics which focused on the best practices for nonprofit organizations.  The format made it seem possible to achieve the Standards for Excellence and therefore be the best nonprofit possible.  Thanks for the opportunity!”

Building Sustainable Nonprofits

"I had long been interested in applying for the SFE, but don't think I would have made it - certainly not now - had it not been for the opportunity to attend the classes.  I wanted you to know how much we appreciate having had the classes, and how much we have benefited from them as an organization. It's a lot of work, but it puts in place policies and procedures that we sometimes didn't even know we needed."
